Coaching Requirements

At SPS Fuzion, all coaches are required to meet Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada certification standards to ensure our athletes are supported in a safe, positive, and development-focused environment.

Mandatory Requirements for All Coaches

All Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches must:

• Complete the Hockey Canada The Shift Forward Coach certification (or hold a currently valid Respect in Sport – Activity Leader certification until expiry).
• Maintain a current Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check as required by Hockey Alberta and SPS Fuzion.
• Be registered through the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR 3.0 / Spordle).
• Complete any additional certifications required for their age division and coaching role.

Hockey-Specific Certifications

Depending on the age group and level being coached, additional requirements may include:

• Coach 1 – Intro to Coach
• Coach 2 – Coach Level
• Checking Skills Certification
• Development 1 Certification (competitive streams)
• Hockey Canada Safety Program (HCSP) certification
