For the 2026–27 season, SPS Fuzion and Sherwood Park Junior Kings are proud to continue their partnership in delivering Season 2 of the U11 Female Elite Program.
Together, SPS Fuzion and Sherwood Park Minor Hockey are committed to providing ambitious female athletes with a high-performance development pathway while allowing them to remain connected to their local hockey community. This unique program is designed for players who are seeking enhanced development opportunities and aspire to compete at the highest levels of the game.
Building on the success of the inaugural season, the program places an increased emphasis on both player and coach development through advanced skill training, elite-level instruction, and a structured approach to long-term athlete development. Recognizing the growing demand for enhanced female development opportunities at the U11 level, SPS Fuzion, the Junior Kings, and several fellow members of the Elite Female Hockey League have embraced this progressive model.
The result is the Fuzion Junior Kings program — a collaborative initiative that provides young female athletes with the opportunity to develop, compete, and excel in an environment specifically designed to prepare them for the next stages of elite female hockey.
Program Structure
The Fuzion Junior Kings U11 Female Elite program will consist of a roster of 16–17 athletes selected through the evaluation process. Designed for players seeking an enhanced development experience, the program combines high-level competition with additional skill development opportunities in a structured, athlete-focused environment.
The team will compete in the Elite Female Hockey League (EFHL), providing athletes with the opportunity to face strong competition from female programs across Alberta. League placement will be determined to ensure an appropriate level of competition and competitive balance, creating an environment where players can be challenged, build confidence, and continue to develop throughout the season.
In addition to regular league play, athletes will benefit from increased development opportunities, including additional full-ice practices, specialized skills sessions, and instruction from experienced development providers. The program places equal importance on individual skill development, hockey IQ, teamwork, and long-term athlete growth.
The Fuzion Junior Kings model is designed to bridge the gap between community and elite hockey by providing young female athletes with access to enhanced development while remaining connected to their local hockey community. Through a combination of quality coaching, competitive play, and focused development programming, players will be supported in reaching their full potential both on and off the ice.
Head Coach Announcement
As the Fuzion Junior Kings program continues to grow, strong leadership remains a key component of delivering a high-quality development experience for our athletes. SPS Fuzion and the Sherwood Park Junior Kings are pleased to announce Scott Henkelman as Head Coach of the U11 Female Elite program for the 2026–27 season.
Coach Henkelman brings a passion for player development and a commitment to creating a positive, challenging, and rewarding environment for young athletes. His focus on skill development, teamwork, and building confidence will help athletes maximize their potential while fostering a culture of excellence both on and off the ice.
Team Selection Process
Team formation will be based on player performance throughout the evaluation process. Athletes will be assessed using objective evaluation data collected during on-ice sessions, ensuring a fair and consistent selection process for all participants.
Following evaluations, the appointed coaching staff will work collaboratively with program and association representatives to review the results and finalize roster selections. This process is designed to place players in an environment that best supports their development, competitiveness, and long-term success within the game.
Enhanced Player Development
A key focus of the Fuzion Junior Kings program is providing additional player development opportunities beyond the traditional team environment. Athletes will benefit from specialized instruction delivered by experienced third-party development providers, including power skating, goaltending development, skills training, and physical literacy programming.
The program is designed to maximize player growth through an increased number of full-ice practices, expanded development hours, and dedicated off-ice training opportunities. This enhanced development model supports the long-term growth of each athlete while helping prepare them for future elite hockey pathways.
Player Apparel Package
All players selected to the Fuzion Junior Kings program will receive an exclusive Fuzion Junior Kings apparel package. The package is designed to foster team identity, pride, and professionalism while ensuring athletes represent the program with a consistent and recognizable presence both on and off the ice.
Community Engagement
Community engagement remains a key pillar of the Fuzion Junior Kings program. Through volunteer initiatives and the Apprenticeship Program, players are encouraged to develop leadership skills, build meaningful connections, and give back to the hockey community that supports them.
The Apprenticeship Program provides Fuzion Junior Kings athletes with opportunities to work alongside younger players within the Sherwood Park Kings Athletic Club (SPKAC), serving as role models while gaining valuable experience in mentorship, coaching, and community leadership. These experiences help foster confidence, responsibility, and a strong sense of belonging both on and off the ice.
